I live in a land of contrasts,
Where rivers oft run dry,
Where endless blue oceans
Meet an endless azure sky.
I live in The City of Churches,
With River and Halls of Learning,
Whenever I travel I know
That my heart will soon be yearning.
I live in a State of extremes ~
Of flood and famine and fire,
But for me the far horizons
Are something that will never tire.
My sky is a velvet canopy
And it always makes me cry,
To see the moon and stars,
Where the mountains touch the sky.
The colours where I live are strong,
Ochre red and purple kissed,
The pinks and greys of pre dawn hours
And the early morning mist.
This is the land I love ~
My little corner of the world,
Where I hope that I may soon see,
Freedom's peaceful flag unfurled.
