BLOSSOMS OF SPRING.

It is winter and the cold winds blow
Across my garden from the west.
The sky is grey and heavy ~
Keeping warm and dry is best.
In a dash across the wet lawn
I turned and to my surprise
There is blossom on the almond tree
Right before my eyes.

My thoughts turned to nature
And the seasons that come and go,
A symphony of springtime
Played with an icy cold bow.
I heard the music of the wind
As I saw the petals shake –
Spring would soon be coming
There could be no mistake.

These sweet white blossoms
Have been hidden from our eyes,
But growing and getting ready
Under pewter coloured skies.
These brave and early blossoms
Soon will be joined in chorus
As the crescendo of nature
Takes place right before us.

Spring bulbs are flowering too,
From a dark and damp cold earth,
Giving hope to us again ~
A glorious new birth.
Roses I have pruned are budding,
A sign of summer flowers,
When fragrance sweet and heady
Will perfume my days and hours.

Soon will come the storms of springtime
Leading on to summer days,
When instead of spring blossoms
We shall see the summer haze.
It pleases me to see these blossoms,
Early though they be,
Reminding me that everything in nature
Is exactly as it should be.

of

John Denver – “Today”

“Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
Ill taste your strawberries,
Ill drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today”
