What if the days were longer
And the sun forgot to shine,
What if I could not remember
The days when you were mine?

What if the flowers forgot to bloom
And the rain forgot to fall,
What if I forgot to tell you
That I loved you most of all?

What if the rivers forgot to flow
And the tides forgot to turn,
What would it be for me
That made my heart to yearn?

What if I could go back in time
And change the things I have done,
What if it always were raining
And there was no time in the sun?

What if I forgot to tell you
That I loved you all the time,
What if no one sang songs
And words for me did not rhyme?

What if I could not see the garden
And the petals of the rose,
What if there was no fragrance
To waft beneath my nose?

What if I could not hear
A new born baby cry,
Or answer a three year old
When they ask me why?

What if I could not smell the coffee
And enjoy an lovely meal,?
What if I could not say “I’m sorry,
And at once begin to heal.

What if I could not sit and read
By the warmth of a fireside glow,
What if I never told you
The things you need to know?

The bitter/sweet times of “What if”
Walk along side of me
Surely you know I love you
Surely you can clearly see.
